Service Description

Wednesday, August 19 - Thursday, August 20 1:30 – 4:00 pm Cost: $30 for the 2-day workshop to WIAC, plus $7 materials fee to Lianna Spirit dolls and related symbolic figures appear in many cultures and they’ve been used in play, ritual, and healing for thousands of years. In this mixed-media workshop, we’ll be creating spirit dolls to hold the feelings we want to acknowledge or cultivate, such as courage, playfulness, inner guidance, joy, protection etc. Using a playful approach that supports your own individual style, we’ll craft a simple armature, shape and dress the figure with fabric and fibers, then personalize it with embellishments like beads, charms, natural materials, and written intentions. All skill levels are welcome; basic experience with handcrafts or mixed media is helpful but not required. An abundance of materials will be provided, including wire, wood, fabric, yarn, and embellishments. Participants please bring any special fabrics or embellishments you particularly want to work with. Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit.
