Service Description

Serenity Scrolls With Diane Leganza and Lianna Gilman Fridays, July 11 & 25, August 1, 15 & 29 1:00 – 3:00 PM Offered as a drop-in class – come when you can, no pre-registration needed Suggested donation to Create Space is $10 per drop-in session Create a decorative fabric scroll using simple hand-stitching and fabric collage techniques. We’ll start with narrow scrolls (approximately 2-3 inches wide and 1-3 feet long) so they come together quickly and easily. No previous sewing or art experience is needed. If you’re new to hand-stitching, you’ll be able to learn the basics very quickly and get started right away. Many stitchers from previous classes asked to continue meeting, and we’d love to have new participants join us. These scrolls are a great opportunity to be playful. There are no set patterns or expectations to follow – every scroll is a unique expression of color, texture and personal meaning. They make great additions to any room and lovely gifts. We'll be providing an abundant selection of fabrics, threads, embellishments, and backings for the scrolls, along with the mellow energy of sharing creative time and mutual inspiration with like-minded people. To make your donation, you can put cash or a check made out to WIAC (Whidbey Island Arts Council) in the donations jar in our classroom, or use the ‘Donate’ button on the Create Space website. If you are unable to afford the full fee, please join us anyway and donate as you are able. Your donations ensure the future of Create Space. Diane Leganza is an artist, educator and creative spirit who shares a Greenbank forest home with her husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She used to camp on Whidbey in the 1970s and moved here after she retired from teaching Art 10 years ago. Diane is a proud senior who took her first skydive in 2023 to celebrate her 74th birthday and followed that up a few weeks later with a zip-line tour. She is thrilled to live among other creatives, exploring new techniques, skills and methods. Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit. She creates one-of-a-kind wearable art, wall-hangings, table-runners, home decor, vessels, and whimsical whatnots. Visit www.heartsong-weaving.com for more about her work.
