Service Description
Serenity Scrolls With Diane Leganza and Lianna Gilman Fridays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27 1:00 – 3:00 PM Materials fee of $5 Payment: $40 for the 4-class series Create a decorative fabric scroll using simple hand-stitching and fabric collage techniques. We’ll start with narrow scrolls (approximately 2-3 inches wide and 1-3 feet long) so they come together quickly and easily. This is a good opportunity for both novice and experienced crafters. No previous sewing or art experience is needed, just an interest in spending some creative time in a calm atmosphere with other like-minded people. These scrolls make a nice display in any room and also make great gifts. Material for the foundation, an abundant selection of fabric scraps for the top layer, embellishments, a review of easy stitching practices, and lots of inspiring samples to look at will be provided. Participants will receive a list of other items to bring. To make your donation by credit card, you can click ‘Add to Cart’ on the registration page or use the ‘Donate’ button on our website. Or you can put cash or a check made out to WIAC (Whidbey Island Arts Council) in the donations jar in our classroom. If you are unable to afford the full fee, please donate as you are able. Your donations ensure the future of Create Space. Diane Leganza is an artist, educator and creative spirit who shares a Greenbank forest home with her husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She used to camp on Whidbey in the 1970s and moved here after she retired from teaching Art 10 years ago. Diane is a proud senior who took her first skydive in 2023 to celebrate her 74th birthday and followed that up a few weeks later with a zip-line tour. She is thrilled to live among other creatives, exploring new techniques, skills and methods. Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit. She creates one-of-a-kind wearable art, wall-hangings, table-runners, home decor, vessels, and whimsical whatnots. Visit www.heartsong-weaving.com for more about her work. The room has good ventilation and we run a high-powered air purifier. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please bring one.
