Your donations ensure the future of Create Space. Create a decorative fabric scroll using simple hand-stitching and fabric collage techniques. We’ll start with narrow scrolls (approximately 2-3 inches wide and 1-3 feet long) so they come together quickly and easily. This is a good opportunity for both novice and experienced crafters. No previous sewing or art experience is needed, just an interest in spending some creative time in a calm atmosphere with like-minded people. These scrolls make a nice display in any room and also make great gifts. In week one, we’ll begin hand-stitching our scrolls. There will be an abundant selection of fabric scraps to choose from and we’ll share a variety of easy stitching practices. In week two, we’ll introduce several techniques for how to make and attach the beginning anchor and ending closure for the scrolls. These include fabric-wrapped driftwood for the anchors and knotted cord, grommets or buttons for the closure. Weeks three and four will be an opportunity to continue stitching and playing with color and texture, completing one or more scrolls. We’ll also talk about ways to display the scrolls. Fabrics for the foundation and top layer will be provided, along with an assortment of threads, embellishments and driftwood. Participants will receive a list of other materials to bring.
