Service Description
Paper + Magic with Lianna Gilman and Diane Leganza Saturday February 28 & Sunday March 1 1:00 - 4:00 pm Cost is $35 for the 2-day workshop. Additional materials fee is $15 to Lianna and Diane. We’ll explore easy techniques for creating amazing papers that look more complicated to make than they actually are. This workshop is about building up your stash for collage and mixed-media, greeting cards, gift wrap, journaling or wall art with a free-style freedom – no rules, no right/wrong, no expectations about making “Art.” We’ll work with paint, ink, water and a few surprise ingredients that interact in unpredictable ways, creating opportunities for magical results. Join us for 2 afternoons of playful techniques that include “stained glass” tissue paper, texture rubbings, rust-dyed paper, ink made from tea, suminagashi (Japanese paper marbling), National Geographic magazine images altered with Citra-Solv, neurographic drawing, plastic-wrap “fractals” and more. All materials will be provided. Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit. She creates one-of-a-kind wearable art, wall-hangings, table-runners, vessels and whimsical whatnots. Visit www.heartsong-weaving.com for more about her work. Diane Leganza is an artist, educator and creative spirit who shares a Greenbank forest home with her husband, 2 dogs and 1 cat. She and her husband, Mark, used to camp on Whidbey in the 1970s and they moved here after she retired from teaching Art 13 years ago. She is thrilled to live among other creatives, exploring new techniques, skills and methods. To pay by credit card, click ‘Add to Cart’ on the registration page. Or you can put cash or a check made out to WIAC (Whidbey Island Arts Council) in the payment jar in our classroom.
