Service Description

Introduction to Gouache Painting with Susan McManamem Tuesdays May 5, 12, 19, 26 3:00-5:00 PM Cost $45 Please join Susan in this wonderful introduction to the world of gouache paint. This medium offers a unique blend of watercolor's water-based properties and the opacity of acrylic or oil paints, making it versatile and forgiving for artists of all levels. Let's take a fresh look at an ancient paint dating back to Egypt and Persia. Gouache is more flexible than watercolor and less messy than oil. It dries to a flat, velvety matte finish. This lack of shine makes the artwork easy to photograph without glare. This paint remains water soluble even after it dries, meaning you can always re-wet it with a damp brush and blend. Susan loves gouache especially when she travels A materials list will be provided upon registration. Supplies can be purchased at Casey's crafts in Bayview. Susan McManamem is an award-winning artist who originally resided in Everett and now lives in Freeland and is a full-time islander. Susan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Illustration from Western Washington University and has continued studying art under highly esteemed instructors to refine and expand her practice. For the past ten years, Susan has committed herself to a daily practice that has profoundly shaped and strengthened her artistic voice and craftsmanship.
