Service Description

Wednesdays, September 2, 16, 23 & 30 (no class Sept 9) 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Cost: $45 Materials fee: $8 (paid to Lianna at first class) Using fabric scraps, yarn, and embellishments, we’ll create collages in a variety of forms, including thread nests, collages on cardboard, bundles, wall-hangings, scrolls, and wrapped wire and wood. Some pieces can be stitched by hand, others are quicker on a sewing machine. The invitation here is to explore color and texture with curiosity and playfulness. There are no rules about what’s right or wrong, no expectations about how it “should” look. You’ll have plenty of time to experiment with the different forms and make as many pieces as you’d like. An abundance of materials will be provided – everything you’ll need to create with. Participants, please bring: - Fabric, yarn, and embellishments from your own stash that you particularly want to use - Basic hand-sewing supplies – pins, needles, small scissors etc - Your own sewing machine if it’s easy to transport – or – you can assemble and pin the foundations in class and then machine-stitch at home. There will be at least 1 sewing machine in the classroom to use if you don’t have one. Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit. She creates one-of-a-kind wearable art, wall-hangings, table-runners, vessels and whimsical whatnots. Visit www.heartsong-weaving.com for more about her work. You can pay $45 by credit card as part of your registration process, or you can put cash or a check made out to WIAC (Whidbey Island Arts Council) in the payment jar in our classroom.
