Embellished Journals Drop-In Sessions

Sundays, October 5, 12, 19 & 26 1:30 - 3:30 PM Cost: $11 per session Small cost for journal if you want one This is a drop-in class. Please pay per session. You don't need to register online. Just show up. Using simple paint, collage, layering and stamping techniques, you can easily and quickly fill a sketchbook with richly embellished pages, ready for your everyday notes-to-self, poetry, dreams or other writing projects, or to showcase your collages. We’ll use a free-style approach to creating these journals – which means there’s no right or wrong way to do it, nothing is a mistake and no previous “art” experience is needed. We’re just going to meet the blank pages with curiosity and a playful spirit to see what alchemy emerges through color and texture. You’ll learn some unconventional ways of painting the pages that make it more fun and less fussy than you might imagine. We’ll also experiment with gel-plate printing, translucent painted tissue paper, making our own brushes with natural materials, grid journalling, and stamping with ordinary objects. We’ll cover adding pockets, overlays and fold-outs to your journals. Basic materials will be provided: - Canson mixed-media sketchbooks (7 x 10 inches, spiral-bound) - A variety of paints and inks, and tools for applying them - An abundance of papers, magazines, fabric, ephemera & embellishments Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit.
