Service Description

Embellished Journals with Lianna Gilman Wednesdays, September 4, 11, 18, 25 10 am – 12 noon Suggested donation is $40 for the 4-class series. To pay by credit card, you can click ‘Add to Cart’ on the registration page or use the ‘Donate’ button on our website. Or you can put cash or a check made out to Partners for Youth Empowerment in the donations jar in our classroom. If you are unable to afford the full fee, please donate as you are able. Your donations ensure the future of Create Space. There is a $10 materials fee due at the first class. If this is a stretch, please pay what you can. Using simple paint, collage and stamping techniques, you can easily and quickly fill a sketchbook with richly embellished pages, ready for your everyday notes-to-self, poetry, dreams or other writing projects, or to showcase your collages. No previous “art” experience is needed – we’re just going to meet the blank pages with a playful spirit and see what alchemy emerges through color and texture. We’ll use a free-style "no-right, no-wrong, no-mistakes" approach to creating these journals. You’ll learn some unconventional ways of applying paint that make it more fun and less fussy than you might imagine. In addition to working with paint and collage, we’ll also incorporate adding pockets and fold-outs to your pages. Basic materials will be provided: - Canson mixed-media sketchbooks (7 x 10 inches, spiral-bound) - Acrylic paints and paint application tools - An assortment of papers, magazines, fabric, ribbon, ephemera & embellishments - Stamps and stamp-pad ink Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit. Covid considerations: the room has good ventilation and we run a high-powered air purifier. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please bring one.
