Come and learn how to make four stunning and unique hats in four two-hour classes. This class is for people who have a basic understanding of sewing and associated techniques. We will construct a variety of hat styles and bring our individual aesthetics for the decorative elements. Each participant will create a minimum of four hat styles from a variety of fabrics. Students will be asked to bring a short list of tools and materials for their individual use; some materials will be supplied. We will use wool, cotton, polar fleece and explore some up-cycling of materials. Bring your imagination and a pair of shears and we will all be mad hatters together! We have some sewing machines at Create Space, if you have a light portable machine, please bring that for your own use. Peggy has been a practicing studio artist, shown regionally and nationally, since 1977. She has worked in a multitude of mediums including textile surface design, oil painting, glass painting, wood, ceramics, mixed media, clothing design and construction. Peggy has also taught regionally and nationally. Peggy began her obsession with hat making when her child was born 36 years ago, and now estimates she’s made more than 2,500 hats! Peggy has also served her community as an avid volunteer. Since moving to Whidbey Island in 1996, her volunteer activities have included co-founding the Island Shakespeare Festival (ISF) in 2010, serving as the founding Board President of the Whidbey Children’s Theater, serving on the steering committee for Langley Creates. She currently serves with the South Whidbey Community Center Campus Stewards. Peggy has been a merchant and business owner since 2008: Eddy’s, Side Market, and the Bard’s Boutique, a gift shop supporting Island Shakespeare Festival.
