Crafting Stories with the Magic of Mixed Media Art Tuesdays — June 9, 16, 23 & 30 1:00 – 3:30 pm Cost: $55 + $25 materials fee payable to Melissa Mixed media is the art of combining diverse materials, textures, imagery, and techniques into a single expressive work of art. It is an intuitive, playful, and deeply personal process where paint, collage, ink, fabric, photographs, found objects, natural elements, and treasured keepsakes come together to tell stories layered with meaning and memory. In this workshop, participants will explore the transformative possibilities of mixed media while creating richly textured artworks that reflect their own imagination, life experiences, and creative voice. Through layering, experimentation and storytelling, we will discover how art can become a vessel for memory, symbolism, healing, and self-expression We will explore: Freedom of Expression — Discover the joy of working intuitively without rigid rules while experimenting with a wide variety of materials and techniques. Texture, Depth & Visual Storytelling — Learn how layering color, imagery, pattern, and found materials creates dynamic compositions filled with richness and meaning. Personal Symbolism & Emotional Resonance — Incorporate personal objects, photographs, writings, and natural elements to create meaningful visual narratives. Creativity Through Transformation — Explore the beauty of repurposing everyday and recycled materials, giving forgotten objects new life through art. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced artists seeking to loosen up, expand their creative practice and reconnect with the joy of experimentation. A beautiful assortment of mixed-media materials will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring meaningful materials they may wish to incorporate into their artwork. Melissa Koch is an architect, visual artist, designer, storyteller, and arts educator whose multidisciplinary practice bridges fine art, public art, and community engagement. Her work includes mixed-media installations, ephemeral works created from up-cycled materials, and permanent public artworks designed to foster connection, reflection, and shared experience. Storytelling lies at the heart of her artistic vision. Inspired by mythology, folklore, and the rhythms of the natural world, Koch creates layered works exploring transformation, memory, resilience, and our interconnected relationship with nature and one another.
