Service Description

Thursdays, September 3, 10, 17 & 24 1:30 - 3.30 PM Cost: $45 Material Fee: $10 (paid directly to teacher) Concertina sketchbooks with 35 pages of high-quality mixed-media paper will be available for an additional $14 to Lianna if you’d like one, or you can make/bring one of your own. These sessions are oriented to playing with mixed-media collage and mark-making. We especially encourage you to work in a concertina (accordion-fold) sketchbook, which adds an exciting dimension to working at your creative edges and developing your own style. Jackie and Lianna will guide the class in an open-studio structure, encouraging your explorations with the techniques we’ll share from our years of experience. You’ll have the use of a wide range of collage materials (paper and fabric), mark-making implements, and mixed-media supplies. This is a great opportunity to be curious and playful with color and texture in a relaxed setting. We welcome anyone who has some familiarity with collage and/or mark-making, at any level of experience. Jackie Amatucci has been a mixed media artist for over 10 years. She also is a potter, jewelry maker, basket maker, and seamstress. She loves sharing her skills and delights in supporting others to make their own masterpieces. Jackie is co-founder of Create Space Langley. As a high school teacher for 30 years, her love of teaching and learning has never waned. Jackie was a teaching artist at Power of Hope Teen Camps for many years. She was a mentor and teaching artist for Seattle-based Young Women Empowered for 13 years. Lianna Gilman is a free-style weaver and fiber artist with an adventurous mixed-media spirit. She found her inner artist when she traded in perfection for curiosity and adopted the free-style approach of “no right, no wrong, no mistakes.” Visit www.heartsong-weaving.com for more about her fiber arts. You can pay $45 by credit card as part of your registration process, or you can put cash or a check made out to WIAC (Whidbey Island Arts Council) in the payment jar in our classroom.
