The class will focus on scarf weaving. Students will work in a team to prepare warps and dress the loom. Weaving will be done by appointment over the next 2 weeks. You will also weave a second project: either a second scarf, a dish towel or two, or a baby blanket. The towels and baby blankets will be done on looms that are already warped. The color is natural white with accent colors of your choice. Session 1: Plan a scarf project, choose colors, calculate yardage and warp the loom. Students will be working as a team. Session 2: Independent weaving time by appointment between January 7-19. Session 3: Discussions on types of weaving, fibers, washing, finishing. There will be a review on how to calculate how much yarn is needed for a project. We will wash and finish one of our scarves during this session. The material fee will be determined based on the projects you choose to weave and the cost of their materials. A scarf will range from $15-20, towels $6-8, and a baby blanket $26. Marcy Johnson has been weaving, spinning, making paper and books, and making jewelry and has been enjoying teaching people these arts for several decades.
