
Basket Weaving for Beginners and others

Service Description
Cost: $65 plus $25 supply fee payable to the instructors Basket weaving is an ancient tradition from cultures worldwide. They are both utilitarian and works of art. When you make baskets, you get into the zone of relaxation and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow weavers. Anita DeGive has been making baskets in a variety of styles for over 15 years, and she is passionate about sharing the craft. Her style is to teach people the basics and then encourage them to share their knowledge and creativity with others as they improve their skills. Using sample projects and pictures, she takes step by step approach that works well with all learning styles and levels of experience. We will be making two baskets: a bowl-shaped basket and a garlic basket. We will provide the basket reed and some tools for cutting. If possible, bring a tape measure (metal or fabric), a wire cutter, and a four-inch awl (available at Sebo’s, Casey’s Crafts or Ace Hardware) Sandy Needham and Jackie Amatucci have been studying with Anita for several years and will be assisting in the class. BIOS Anita DeGive has been a basket artist for over 15 years. She makes baskets of all shapes, weaves and sizes. She has a clear and supportive teaching style that engages students of all levels. Sandy Needham is a retired Nurse Practitioner who devotes herself to the wood carving, basket weaving, and fishing. Jackie Amatucci is an all-around artist and co-manager of Create Space. Whenever she has a free moment from her work with collage, painting, sewing, and jewelry making, she finds herself weaving baskets.
