About the event

UkuLangle! Section: Beginner Class

Group Ukulele Lessons for Beginners (and others who want to get playing)

with David Edwards

Fridays: 1-2:30 pm

June 17 & 24, July 1 & 15 (no class on July 8)

Suggested donation: $5-$10 per class day if you are able

Do you have a ukelele hanging around your house that you want to learn to play? Maybe you’ve been considering taking up an instrument for the cognitive benefits? Or perhaps you’ve put your uke down and want to get started again? Whether you are a complete beginner or want some motivation to play again, this class will get you on your way.

In each session we’ll explore four primary content areas:

  • Instrument ownership & care
  • Simple chords & progressions
  • Strumming & picking techniques
  • Basic theory & sight reading

We’ll learn easy songs from folk, pop, blues and traditional Hawaiian music (singing along - with our masks on)

No experience playing an instrument required.

David Edwards has a degree in music education and has taught and coached in many settings across all levels and life stages. He has an exquisite solo voice and plays multiple instruments. He is Co-Director of Open Circle Singers, South Whidbey’s community choir, and has also served as choir director at UUCWI and Unity of Whidbey. He is a warm and engaging teacher who will help you connect with your innate musicality.
