About the event

Make Art Using Traditional Mexican Paper Mache

With Gretchen Lawlor

Monday and Wednesday afternoons: 2-4 pm

August 22, 24, 29, 31

Join Gretchen Lawlor for a creative adventure using Cartoneria, the tradition paper mache art of Mexico.  Cartoneria is folk art and street art made with newspaper, flour, and water. It is forgiving, undaunting, super cheap, and a great way to make beautiful art of bad news! In the class you will make an art piece or art pieces of your choice. These can be mythological creatures that represent your power, a magic box, or festive items like shades for a short string of twinkle lights, or a shade for a special lamp. Gretchen will help you come up with a project that most suits you.

Gretchen Lawlor is an inspiring artist, teacher, mythologist and astrologer who makes art making easy, fun, and magical. She has always known how to sculpt, but living in Mexico she found her joy when she learned the art of Cartoneria.
