About the event
Do you want to help young people who are facing challenges while using your sewing and knitting skills? We’ve started a community of makers who are creating blankets for children in need. We are currently making blankets for several different organizations both on Whidbey Island and off. These include:
- The Blanket Project at https://www.artdivision.org/the-blanket-project.html makes and distributes blankets for kids and their families stuck at the border.
- CADA (Citizens Against Domestic & Sexual Abuse) - working with the Sheriff’s office on Whidbey
- CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) - blankets for foster kids on Whidbey
Experience is not necessary because we have many people who are willing to teach you to knit, sew, crochet, and quilt. You may participate at any level you want. If you can’t or don’t want to make blankets but still want to help, we need donations for shipping costs. Also, gas money and delivery people who can take the blankets to CADA and CASA are needed as well. This is an ongoing project run by volunteers. If you have further questions about the group, please contact either Luanne Seymour (luanneseymour@comcast.net) or Darcy Sinclair (darcysinclair@me.com) for more information.
